Flights
As a tourist visiting Barcelona, your main airport will be Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN), which serves as the city's primary hub for international and domestic flights.
BCN is well connected to major cities across Europe and the world, with frequent direct flights. You can easily compare flights to Barcelona on Kiwi or Skyscanner.
You can reach Barcelona affordably with budget airlines like Ryanair or Vueling, depending on your starting city.
Since I flew from Poznań, Poland, I used Ryanair to Girona Airport, then took a 15-minute bus to Girona city, with tickets available outside the airport for around €2.90. From Girona,
I took an approximately 1.5-hour train to Barcelona Sants, which I booked in advance through Trainline.
Alternatively, consider taking a train or FlixBus to Barcelona, especially if you're travelling from nearby cities in Spain or southern France. Both options can be convenient and scenic ways to reach the city.
Safety
Barcelona is generally a safe city to visit, with a well-developed public safety system.
Like many major tourist cities, however, pickpocketing and petty theft are common, especially around busy areas such as La Rambla, the Gothic Quarter, public transport, and crowded attractions.
Stay aware of your surroundings, keep your valuables secure, and avoid displaying expensive items in crowded areas. Overall, Barcelona is a welcoming and enjoyable destination for travelers.
Budget
Barcelona can be moderately expensive for a major European city, especially during the peak summer season.
Hostel beds typically cost around 20-35 Euros, while private hotel rooms can start from 60-100+ Euros.
Meals at casual restaurants usually range from 10-20 Euros.
Public transport is reliable and affordable, with metro, buses, and trains making it easy to explore Barcelona.
If you're staying for several days, consider the T-usual, which offers unlimited travel for 30 days and can be purchased at Barcelona Sants train station.
For shorter stays, the T-casual or Hola Barcelona Travel Card may be more suitable. I personally used the T-usual, and it made getting around easier and more affordable.
